Jnana Yoga

Jnana Yoga – Swami Vivekananda

Students of religion will find much of interest in this book; those who care for India in any way will be glad to receive an indication of high Hindu thought in one of the most striking religious movements of the day; while the orthodox Christian will derive some information from the work regarding the attitude of cultured Hindus toward Christianity and its Founder. After reading the book one is inexcusable if his ideas concerning Vedanta are hazy. The lectures are all extremely interesting, the style brilliant, the reasoning often subtle. Whether the philosophy advanced is satisfactory or not to those whose theories are the outgrowth of a different system of thought, Vivekanandas method of presenting Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

Karma Yoga

Karma Yoga – Swami Vivekananda

he goal of life is really knowledge, of the reality of things. We are apt to think that it is pleasure, and seeking pleasure in sense-gratification, we meet with so many disappointments and sorrows that we sometimes almost despair and are led to believe that all life is a vain dream with no sure foundation anywhere. It is an endless chain of cause and effect in which we are involved, and from which only knowledge of how to act without producing reaction can ever free us. Karma Yoga is meant to teach us exactly this, to make clear to us first the causes of our bondage, and secondly the method of getting rid of the Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

Raja Yoga

Raja Yoga – Swami Vivekananda

The subject of this book is the form of Yoga known as Raja-Yoga. The aphorisms of Patanjali are the highest authority on Raja-Yoga, and form its textbook. The other philosophers, though occasionally differing from Patanjali in some philosophical points, have, as a rule, acceded to his method of practice a decided consent. The first part of this book comprises several lectures to classes delivered by the writer in New York. The second part is a rather free translation of the aphorisms (Sutras) of Patanjali, with a running commentary.

The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ – Anne Catherine Emmerich

The meditations in this book will probably rank high among many similar works which the contemplative love of Jesus has produced; but it is our duty here plainly to affirm that they have no pretensions whatever to be regarded as history. They are but intended to take one of the lowest places among those numerous representations of the Passion which have been given us by pious writers and artists, and to be considered at the very utmost as the Lenten meditations of a devout nun, related in all simplicity, and written down in the plainest and most literal language, from her own dictation. To these meditations, she herself … Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

The Desire of Ages

The Desire of Ages – Ellen Gould White

The author treats the life and work of Christ and his disciples in this volume from the standpoint of a believer to believers, and as a Christian to Christians. The Desire of Ages is more than a biography of the life of Christ: it is the story of the ife or lives, revealing the breadth, height, and depth, of the Father’s love, in the gift of his only Son for the fallen race. The scenes and incidents in connection with the Saviour’s birth in Bethlehem of Judea, the appearance of the angels to the shepherds; his mother his first human teacher; Christ’s baptism; the Great Teacher; in Gethsemane; in Pilate’s judgment-hall; Calvary; Read more.../Mehr lesen ...
