The Ritual of Transcendental Magic

The Ritual of Transcendental Magic – Eliphas Levi

This work is in two parts: in the first one, called “The Doctrine of Transcendental Magic”, we establish the kabalistic and magical doctrine in its entirety; this here, the second part, is consecrated to the cultus, that is, to Ceremonial Magic. The one is that which the ancient sages termed the Clavicle, the other that which people on the country-side still call the Grimoire. The numbers and subjects of the chapters which correspond in both parts, are in no sense arbitrary, and are all indicated in the great universal key, of which we give for the first time a complete and adequate explanation. Let this work now go its way where it Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns & Fairies

The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns & Fairies – Andrew Lang

Mr. Lang’s book is the most curious imaginable. Written in 1691 by a Scotch divine, it is nothing less than a calm assumption of the existence at that time of a commonwealth of elves, fauns, and fairies, whose government, habits, etc., are minutely described upon the authority of “Men of Second Sight” (it is not clear whether the author himself was one of these by virtue of bis being a seventh son), the method of obtaining which gift is also carefully explained. These fairies are of a middle nature between man and angel; they inhabit subterranean abodes, which they change at each quarter of the year. “They are distributed Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

The Little Flowers Of St. Francis

The Little Flowers Of St. Francis – St. Francis of Assisi

The Little Flowers of St. Francis (Italian Fioretti di San Francesco) is a florilegium (excerpts of his body of work) on the life of Saint Francis of Assisi which was composed at the end of the 14th century. The anonymous Italian text, almost certainly by a Tuscan author, is a version of the Latin Actus beati Francisci et sociorum eius, of which the earliest extant manuscript is one of 1390 AD. Luke Wadding ascribes the text to Fra. Ugolino da Santa Maria, whose name occurs three times in the Actus.

The Sacred Magic Of Abramelin The Mage

The Sacred Magic Of Abramelin The Mage – S. L. MacGregor Mathers

This remarkable grimoire was translated by S.L.M. Mathers from a 15th century French mauscript. This text has had a huge influence on modern ceremonial magic, and has been cited as a primary influence on Aleister Crowley. Abraham of Würzburg, a cabalist and scholar of magic, describes a quest for the secret teachings which culminated in Egypt, where he encountered the magician Abramelin, who taught him his system in detail. The procedure involves many months of purification, followed by the invocation of good and evil spirits to accomplish some very worldly goals, including acquisition of treasure and love, travel through the air and under water, and raising armies out … Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

Egyptian Myths And Legend

Egyptian Myths And Legend – Donald Mackenzie

In this volume the myths and legends of ancient Egypt are embraced in a historical narrative which begins with the rise of the great Nilotic civilization and ends with the Græco−Roman Age. The principal deities are dealt with chiefly at the various periods in which they came into prominence, while the legends are so arranged as to throw light on the beliefs and manners and customs of the ancient people. Metrical renderings are given of such of the representative folk songs and poems as can be appreciated at the present day.

The Prophecies and Revelations of Saint Bridget of Sweden

The Prophecies and Revelations of Saint Bridget of Sweden – Saint Bridget

Saint Bridget of Sweden was a mystic and saint, and founder of the Bridgettines after the death of her husband of twenty years. As a child, she had already believed herself to have visions; these became more frequent, and her records of these “Celestial revelations” obtained a great vogue during the Middle Ages. Her visions of the Nativity of Jesus had a great influence on depictions of the Nativity of Jesus in art. This edition contains all that is known today of the visions and prophecies of Saint Brigdet and most of her prayers.

Kebra Nagast

Kebra Nagast – E. A. Wallis Budge

This volume contains a complete English translation of the famous Ethiopian work, The “Kebra Nagast”, i.e. the “Glory of the Kings [of Ethiopia]”. This work has been held in peculiar honour in Abyssinia for several centuries, and throughout that country it has been, and still is, venerated by the people as containing the final proof of their descent from the Hebrew Patriarchs, and of the kinship of their kings of the Solomonic line with Christ, the Son of God. The Kebra Nagast is a great storehouse of legends and traditions, some historical and some of a purely folk-lore character, derived from the Old Testament and the later Rabbinic writings, and from Egyptian (both Read more.../Mehr lesen ...
