The Scarecrow Of Oz

The Scarecrow Of Oz – L. Frank Baum

This is the ninth book of the Oz series. Cap’n Bill and Trot, who have already appeared in “The Sea Fairies” and “Sky Island”, now find their way to the enchanted lands in the neighborhood of Oz. They are involved in several dangerous adventures, but with the help of the Scarecrow and the Ork, a strange bird without feathers and with a propeller for a tail, they conquer the King of Jinxland and put the lovely princess Gloria on the throne. Finally they join Ozma and Dorothy in the Emerald City, which seems to be getting rather crowded with earth people because of Ozma’s generosity.

The Patchwork Girl of Oz

The Patchwork Girl of Oz – L. Frank Baum

This is the seventh book of the Oz series. The Patchwork Girl is one of the most delightful of the stories. The most important new character is Miss Scraps Patches, the patchwork girl herself, who is only a large stuffed doll, but very much alive thanks to the magic Powder of Life, and very brainy, because her stuffing has been well dosed with a part of the contents of all the bottles on the shelf labeled “Brain Furniture” . Then there is the Woozy, a strange little animal “all squares and flat surfaces and edges”, who isn’t very important except for the three hairs at the end of his tail; his Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

When Dorothy arrives at the Emerald City she Read more.../Mehr lesen ...

Aurora Floyd

Aurora Floyd – Mary E. Braddon

This is a highly sensational story, full of clever, sprightly, and powerful writing, although calculated to make us believe that modern society is sadly in need of moral improvement. Miss Braddon writes with great fluency and case, and appears to have a natural aptitude for plotting. In abandoning the stage and music – teaching for this department of literature, we do not think she has mistaken her vocation. The first chapter of ‘Aurora Floyd’ is a story in itself. It tells the history of Mr. Archibald Floyd who came from ‘the land o’ cakes,’ and worked his way up in the world till he became the senior partner of the great banking firm of Read more.../Mehr lesen ...
